IMERIR is a School of Computer Engineering. It is a private institution supported by the Chambre of Commerce and Industry of Perpignan and its partners, in particular :
• the City Council of Perpignan
• the University of Perpignan

The entrance requirement qualification is a two-year post baccalauréat diploma (A Level +2). The courses last three years, leading to a qualification equivalent to a master's degree in Computer Science and Robotics.

TEACHING METHODS
The lectures are an important component of the programs, but the teaching methods put emphasis on the development of practical skills, through individual or small group assignements.

These programs combine :
Lectures
Small group tutorials
Project work, in teams of four or five students
Two periods of work placement in companies (three months during the second year in the summer, six months during the third year, from April to September)
.

COURSE CONTENT
The course is divided into six main modules :
Methods of Analysis and Design
Information Technology (Information Systems and Databases, Programming Languages, Software Engineering, Networks and Distributed Systems)
Robotics, Computer Vision, Computer Aided Design
Artificial Intelligence
General Knowledge and Business
Project Work.

WORK PLACEMENTS
The course also includes two periods of work placement which enable students to find out the real world of work, and to put into practice their learned knowledge.
In the second year, there is a short work placement of three or four months.
In the third year, the work placement lasts six months, and often leads to a job. At the end, a written report about the work and the results of the project has to be produced. In addition, the students have to give an oral presentation and explanation of their work to a jury which includes teachers and independent computer professionals.
Students are encouraged to do at least one of these work placements abroad.

APPRENTICESHIP
A third of IMERIR students pursue their studies as apprentices. They are employees in companies and will receive a salary for the whole three years of their studies.
The apprenticeship scheme consists of a succession of training periods in the company and in school. In the first two years, students spend a month and a half in the company, then the following month and a half in school, and so on. In the third year, they spend six months in school, and at the end of their curriculum, six months in their company.
Apprentices are taught the same programme as students. The only difference is in the timetable : during the first two years, the apprentices do these projects in company time, while all school time is for lectures, tutorials and individual research activities.
